Site of interest to the project:
KARIBU,
the IRFF with the cooperation of the RYS
will run an urban development project in Tanzania from the 1st to the 15th of
September 2003.
The project is focused on rehabilitation of two blocks building of the IRFF Adult Education Center in the premises of Mnazi Mmoja Primary School in Kariakoo (Dar es Salaam).
Jangwani Ward is one of the 22 Wards in Ilala District in Dar es Salaam, whose population is estimated to be of 33,000 people.
Many of the inhabitants don't have education. Which situation refrain them from having jobs to run their daily life. Some of the adult people and the youth of this area have only standard VII (seven) leaving certificates while others don't have education at all.
This situation makes people deal with small business and other illegal business such as drug trafficking, prostitution, robbery, etc. IRFF has been working for the change in this area since last year through teaching people on vocational education and English language as well as counseling to the drug victims.
Now that we have been given the two blocks building in a very bad shape, we focused to rehabilitate them and make them on a modern standard for better education.
During the project we will have outing in Bagamoyo, explores such has Burton, Grant, Livingston and Stanley all passed in this town , slave trade history, (http://www.utalii.com/Off_the_normal_path/Bagamoyo_Historical_Town.htm) and visit a beach at the Paradise Holiday Resort www.paradiseresort.net
The other outing with a reflection and closing day, will be at UVIKIUTA youth project, where participants will learn about the success of some youth activities of self-reliance.
Participants will stay at the University of Dar es Salaam (http://www.udsm.ac.tz/), Mabibo hostel during the project.
